Happy December! I’m participating in a Countdown to Christmas party over at the Moda Bake Shop where a different Moda Bake Shop Chef shares a free 6″ x 6″ Christmas-themed block tutorial every day until Christmas. There are some really fun designs coming for you (and I even get to do a second block later in the month!), so I hope you’ll check back in and see what we’ve all been working on. 🙂
Today, I get to share my Peppermint Twist 6″ x 6″ block tutorial on the Moda Bake Shop blog. You can head over HERE to see the full, step-by-step photo tutorial and make your own cute peppermint candy block!
The tutorial on the Moda Bake Shop post is for a 6″ x 6″ finished block, but I also wanted to share the info for a 12″ x 12″ finished (12.5″ x 12.5″ unfinished) block for those of you wanting to make a larger block.
Below is the quilt block diagram and cutting instructions for the 12″ x 12″ Peppermint Twist block. You’ll need to head over to THIS post on the Moda Bake Shop blog for the photo tutorial. Even though the pieces are all bigger, the instructions are almost identical. The only difference is in step #5 when you trim the half-square triangles made from Pieces A and B. For the 12″ x 12″ block, you’ll want to trim the half-square triangles to 3.5″ x 3.5″.
Peppermint Twist Quilt Block Diagram:
Remember to follow the step-by-step tutorial HERE, but trim those red and white half-square triangles to 3.5″ x 3.5″. 🙂
Oh, and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of the Peppermint Twist block next to my FPP Geometric Christmas Tree block. Aren’t they so fun together?!? If you missed the post about the Geometric Christmas tree, I have the pattern listed in my Craftsy shop (for free!!).
So head on over to the Moda Bake Shop blog for the Peppermint Twist block (traditionally pieced) and to my Craftsy Shop for the Geometric Christmas Tree block (foundation paper pieced). Happy sewing!!
