I’m releasing a new patriotic pattern just in time for some Independence Day sewing. The Star Spangled Mini Quilt pattern is perfect for anyone wanting a fun and fast new 4th of July project this year. Star Spangled finishes at 15″ x 15″, which also happens to be the perfect size for a pillow cover! I turned both of my mini quilts into pillow covers so they are more versatile and you can bet I’ll have them out all through July!
The Star Spangled pattern comes with two star block options: a foundation paper pieced (FPP) star, and a traditionally pieced star. You can make one or the other. . . or if you’re indecisive like me, you can make both! The remainder of the block is traditionally pieced and the whole pattern sews together so quickly!
The entire pattern is perfect for the scrap lover. I made the FPP star version (below) entirely scrappy and LOVE the look. I finished it off with some scalloped quilting and a fun red and white striped binding–perfect for Independence Day.
For the traditionally pieced star block, I still went a little scrappy with the red strips, but kept all of the fabric within different Bonnie and Camille lines and added simple straight-line quilting to keep a more traditional and classic look.
I had to add a little interest to the backs of the pillows, too, so I picked out some fun coordinating prints with contrasting zippers to really add to the whole red, white, and blue theme. The woven labels were designed by me and purchased through Custom Labels 4 U and I have loved having this super easy way to label (when I actually remember to use them!). 😉
As always, Star Spangled was designed in EQ8 and includes full color illustrations, detailed and clear step-by-step instructions, plus full-sized pattern pieces for the foundation paper pieced star block.
