La Conner Tote Bag in Cotton + Steel

Fat Quarter Shop is revisiting some of their past tutorial and I had the opportunity to make my own version of the La Conner Tote Bag to share with everyone. Jera Brandvig from Quilting in the Rain designed this fun and easy tote bag with her La Conner fabric line in mind. And the best part? There’s a full video tutorial! If you’re a visual learner, it sure helps to see each step demonstrated.

Jera’s original tote bag used a darling patchwork on the outside, but I decided to simplify my tote bag and do a single fabric on the front and back. The tote bag pattern is the perfect size to use a large scale print or one of your favorite designs that you just don’t want to cut up (like this fun Alice in Wonderland print from Cotton + Steel).

I added a little extra stitching on the navy handles plus some fun gold metallic prints for the inside lining and pocket.

The La Conner tote bag is the perfect size to carry around a small to medium sized sewing project with room to spare for a couple notebooks plus an issue or two of your favorite quilting magazine.

Check out Jera’s blog post and the helpful video tutorial HERE to make your own La Conner tote!
