Ultimate Travel Bag with Golden Days Floral

I have a confession: up until recently, the thought of putting in a zipper would make me break out into a cold sweat. Over the last couple of years, I’ve really made an effort to force myself to get comfortable with zippers. And guess what? It worked!

In June, I made my very first Ultimate Travel Bag with the help of my friend Kaitlyn from Knot and Thread Design. The process and end result were so much fun that I wanted to make another bag right away! So when I saw this gorgeous navy floral the Golden Days line by Riley Blake, I immediately knew what I wanted to make with it–another Ultimate Travel Bag!

The Navy Floral from Golden Days is the main outer print and the inside is lined with the sweetest mint dot, also from Golden Days. It turns out it’s super hard getting a nice photo of the inside of a bag, so you’ll have to trust me on how lovely the mint dot is. 😉 The straps are Riley Blake Swiss Dots in Steel (I wanted a darker color since the handles are likely to be touched a lot) and the mint accent colors are Riley Blake Kisses in Sweet Mint.

The bag is quilted in a digital pantograph called Dizzy Izzy and the rose gold zippers were purchased on Amazon here. It was my first time using a zipper by the yard and I loved it. You can cut the zipper to just the right size, and there’s still plenty left for other projects!

Golden Days from Riley Blake Designs is shipping to stores now, so ask your favorite quilt shop about it!
